Lit tiff 2005
There's nothing like a good literary tiff, and the one shaping up between experimental writer Ben Marcus (pictured) and Jonathan Franzen promises to be a goodie. Marcus recently attacked literary realists, and Franzen in particular, in a piece in Harpers. Is it just a clash of "two new young, embittered male egos?"Personally I like Marcus' argument. I think he finds something, a weakness, in Franzen that is not obvious. Is he a failed experimentalist? We await Franzen's response. But in the meantime here's another less favourable view and Slate gives its rather sober take here.
Lighten up guys and get into it. Fight! Fight! Fight!

I particularly like the look of Ben Marcus's minimalist website, and what it contains, especially the piece (under 'Tools') about the Jet 708521JWP-12DX 121/2 portable planer.
Animals. Perhaps they should look at the innate patterns of human behaviour like the literary darwinists, inlcuding our own Brian Boyd.

Belatedly checkout that link anaymous. Facinating stuff. Seeing Boyd speak in Sydney tonight, might throw in a question on it.
