Auckland Film Festival: Inland Empire
No one in their right minds goes to see a David Lynch film expecting something light and easily digestible. But Inland Empire tests even the most experienced, open-minded Lynch junkie. Shot entirely on digital video, it is, to quote Laura Dern as Nikki Grace/Susan Blue in the film, “some pretty heavy shit”.

I love love love "Fire Walk With Me" (one of my fave movies), but I was truly lost on the Lost Highway. This one sounds even more impenetrable.
The impenetrability quotient of a Lynch movie does seem to be a very personal thing. Some people lost on Lost Highway, for example, thoroughly enjoyed Mulholland Drive, which I struggle with.
And, by the way, Mrs Smith: in case you weren't aware, the second season of Twin Peaks has been out on DVD for about six months now, after languishing in legal no-man's-land for years. It's been remastered and looks stunning. Although, of course, the fashions and some of the writing have since been eclipsed by what Twin Peaks allowed other makers of TV shows to do in subsequent years - Six Feet Under and Huff, for example.
please tell us, blonde from the middle of row E who was unlucky enough not to be allowed to endure a full Lynchian, you were up on high, right??
