Wankers

Ms. Brown and Mr. Friedman — who of course were thrilled to have a child, like all the later-in-life parents interviewed for this article — were also determined not to let Harrison “take control of the house,” Ms. Brown said. They went ahead with putting in flat-front lacquered maple cabinets in the kitchen, even though they soon had to watch a professional babyproofer drill 300 holes in them for safety latches. (Ms. Brown still cringes.) They put up silk Shantung draperies in Harrison’s bedroom, knowing that they might well end up stained, as they soon did — with yogurt. And they held onto the molded-wood chairs, which were not an easy transition from the highchair. “They have a very sleek bottom,” Ms. Brown explained. “He slides off it.”

The full article is here. No sympathy.

Wholly Jaysus Fjork! At least it ended on a somewhat positive note "it's a good chair, it's holding up well"...

The only justification I can see for people like that is the one a friend's mother used when they got a dishwashing machine - put everything in it, replace the things that don't survive with dishwasher-safe things. Ditto children and designer items... the trick is to avoid having to replace too many children but designer tosh you can buy anywhere.

If you're in Auckland you can probably still go to MOTAT and see a 2" clockwork train engine with my teethmarks in it. It was a venerable antique when I did that, but my great-grandfather was more concerned with whether it had lead paint on it.

Wonderful stuff. Pure nuts.

The problem is that this sort of toxicity is with us in NZ.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Cry, I think. And pray.

Thanks for the tips, Moz. But it's probably not a good idea to put your children in the dishwasher.
